‘Teen Mom 2’: Why Kailyn Lowry Refers to Her Father as Her ‘Sperm Donor’ – Showbiz Cheat Sheet

Teen Mom 2 star Kailyn Lowry doesnt really have a relationship with either of her parents. Her mom was an alcoholic when she was growing up (and believes she still is), and she didnt meet her father until she was 17 years old.

When she was on 16 & Pregnant, Lowry went to Texas to meet her father. It didnt go well.

Nothing about the man I was meeting now seemed consistent with what he had told me about himself. Really, he seemed to me like a mess of contradictions. Supposedly, he held two associates degrees, yet I dont know if he had a job. He used to be a Marine and a bull rider, but he was absolutely out of shape with no trace of his former military self. It seemed to me that he had let himself go to the point of no return, she wrote in her 2014 book, Pride Over Pity.

Lowry continued: I was supposed to be proud to call this man, Dad? He had told me he lived in a cozy two bedroom house, but the home he brought me to turned out to be a little shack. When he had described the quaintness of his place, I had pictured a cozy, little ranch. I was disappointed because I had expected to see my dad living comfortably.

The reality star left the trip feeling hurt after her father made comments about how if hed been there she wouldnt be pregnant.

There was no way to make a comeback from the painful stabbing feeling his comments induced, she wrote.

After that visit, Lowry began to think of the man who is her father not as her dad but as a sperm donor.

I feel like he was never really my father anyway. I dont think of him as much more than a sperm donor. The painful memory of the one time we spent together has been memorialized on television, courtesy of MTV. Its okay, though. Meeting my sperm donor was all part of satisfying my natural curiosity. That curiosity died once I realized I wasnt meant to have a father figure in my life, she wrote.

Lowry continued: He wasnt around for seventeen years of my life and I couldnt expect him to change because of one visit. I can honestly say that I am okay with not having a father in my life. Its probably one of the first times I can say that and really mean it.
