The pedestrian killed Wednesday night when a car lost control on Reading Road in Mount Auburn was a 20-year-old pregnant woman whose baby boy died with her at the hospital.

Thats according tothe Cincinnati Police Department. And the driver is now facing charges, police said.

It said Anthony Cioffi, 31, was operating a 2011 BMW X5 south on Reading Road about 8:20 p.m. when he lost control of his car, which went off the right side of the road and struck a telephone pole, the pregnant woman and a building at 2499 Reading Road.

Cioffi has been charged with four counts of vehicular homicide, according to police, two counts for the mother and two counts for the baby boy. He will be officially charged once he leaves the hospital, a police spokesperson said.

Authorities are withholding the names of the victims pending notification of next-of-kin.

Cioffi and a 29-year-old male passenger in the BMW suffered injuries that were not life-threatening and were taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where they are listed in stable condition, police said.

The pregnant woman also was taken to the hospital Wednesday night.

While being treated, (she) gave birth to a (male baby), both succumbed to their injuries, the police news release said. Impairment and excessive speed appear to be factors in the crash.
