These 10 Celeb Moms Welcomed Babies Using A Surrogate – Bravo (blog)

It seems that magazines and celebrity news shows are constantly on bump watch, following celebrity pregnancies for the moment when their little bundles arrive. But for some of Hollywoods biggest stars, their path to parenthood was kept under wraps. These are the stars who welcomed babies by using a gestational carrier, or surrogate. For many of these stars, who waited a long time to become parents, these little ones are their miracle babies.

Sarah Jessica Parker, 2009

Seven years after having their son, James Wilke, Sarah Jessica Parker and husband Matthew Broderick welcomed twins Tabitha and Marion Loretta via surrogate.

The Divorce actress opened up about the decision on Today, saying, Well, you know, weve been trying to expand our family for a number of years and we actually have explored a variety of ways of doing so. This was one of the things we discussed with seriousness that had real possibilities for us.

SJP also touched on her struggles with trying to conceive. It would be odd to have made this choice if I was able to, you know, have successful pregnancies since my sons birth.

Tyra Banks, 2016

Tyra Banks made the surprise announcement last year that she and longtime boyfriend Erik Asla welcomed their baby boy York Banks Asla.

The best present we worked and prayed so hard for is finally here, the TV host and supermodel captioned this image of the babys hospital hat on Instagram. Tyra, 43, also said, As we thank the angel of a woman that carried our miracle baby boy for us, we pray for everyone who struggles to reach this joyous milestone.

Nicole Kidman, 2010

Nicole Kidman, following a very public split from former husband Tom Cruise, later found love with Keith Urban. The actress had a daughter, Sunday Rose, in 2008 and in 2010, the couple welcomed Faith Margaret, who was born from surrogacy. Our family is truly blessed, and just so thankful, to have been given the gift of baby Faith Margaret, the family said in a statement at the time. No words can adequately convey the incredible gratitude that we feel for everyone who was so supportive throughout this process, in particular our gestational carrier.

Earlier this year, Nicole said she was hoping to add to her family again. Keith and I would love to have more babies. My grandmother gave birth to my mother at 49. I would be beyond happy and just welcome it with open arms, she said. After so many years of trying, it was so against the odds. We went through a surrogacy with my second daughter because we wanted another child so much that it hurt. I felt my chances of conceiving again were slimmer and slimmer. And then we got Faith.

Giuliana Rancic, 2012

After a long and very public battle with infertility (Giuliana Rancic and her husband Bill documented their struggles in their 2009-2014 reality show), the couple welcomed baby Edward Duke in 2012.

Our journey has a happy ending, Bill, 41, told People at the time. We didnt give up, we didnt quit and were going to have a good ending to this. After the success of the surrogacy birth, the couple tried again to conceive via gestational carrier but their surrogate, Delphine, suffered a series of miscarriages.

They lost the last embryo on New Year's Eve 2014.

"We thought, 'This is definitely going to work. This is our last shot,'" the Giuliana said of her final attempt to have a biological child. Getting the bad news, especially after being so optimistic, was painful, she said.

Amy Smart, 2016

Amy Smart revealed the birth of her baby girl, Flora, over Instagram last January.

Posting the photo showing Amy and her husband Carter Oosterhouse holding the baby, Amy wrote, "It is with great gratitude and pleasure to welcome our little girl Flora to the world. What a blessed way to bring in 2017 Amen and Thank You God for this special new life!"

Amy revealed their decision to use a surrogate after what she referred to as years of fertility struggles.

She captioned the photo, One month ago today, Dec. 26th our amazing beautiful daughter came into this world. Feeling so grateful to have her in my arms... after years of fertility struggles I give thanks today to our kind, loving surrogate for carrying her.

Ellen Pompeo, 2014 and 2016

The actress gave birth to her first daughter, Stella Luna, though her next two children Sienna May and Eli Christopher were born via surrogate in 2014 and 2016.

The Greys Anatomy actress has been open about the choice she and husband Chris Ivery made to have children using a gestational carrier. "This is an incredible thing to do with your life, to give the gift of carrying someone's child," Ellen told Jimmy Kimmel in October 2014, after announcing the birth of Sienna. "I am forever grateful and feel very blessed and grateful to her she who will remain anonymous."

Elizabeth Banks, 2011 and 2012

It helps that other moms have said that once they had their babies, they forgot they were ever pregnant, Elizabeth Banks revealed in the March 2012 issue of Womens Health of her decision to have children using a gestational carrier. So once my focus became the baby and not the pregnancy, it was a very easy decision.

Thanks to surrogacy, she and her husband Max Handelman now have two children, Felix and Magnus. Like Felix, Magnus was born via gestational surrogate, the actress shared. This experience has exceeded all expectations, taught us a great deal about generosity and gratitude, and established a relationship that will last a lifetime. I am also so very thankful to our family and friends for their support throughout this process, as well as the Center for Surrogate Parenting for helping make all this possible.

Jimmy Fallon, 2013 and 2014

When parents choose a surrogacy, often the spotlight is on the woman. But Jimmy Fallon opened up about the experience he and his wife went through together when opting for a surrogate for their children. For anyone out there struggling to have a baby, me and my wife went through a bunch of stuff,' he shared. Hang in there if you can. I know its hard. Its awful, actually. But when you finally get to the end of the road its a miracle, and you have this little bundle. You just fall in love.

Jimmy and his wife Nancy Juvonen have welcomed two little bundles into their lives, Winnie Rose, born in 2013, and Frances Cole the following year. After Winnie was born, the funnyman told People Being a father is the most exciting, amazing thing that ever happened to me.

"I didn't really think about it at all," Liu told CBS News . "I just went ahead and did it. I didn't realize there was criticism until after I sent out the information that I had my baby through a gestational carrier and my friends said, 'Don't listen to what some people are saying.' I didn't realize people were saying anything negative!"

The Charlies Angels star also says shes not alone in her motherhood journey. "I don't really raise [Rockwell] by myself," she said. "I have a lot of friends and a group of people who help me. It's important to ask for help. If you can manage on your own, that's fine, but people shouldn't feel that they have to be alone while doing it."

Angela Bassett, 2006

In 2006, Angela Bassett and husband Courtney B. Vance welcomed fraternal twins, daughter Bronwyn Golden and son Slater Josiah.

It was a long journey for the actress who revealed she was devastated when it didnt happen [again and again]. I had to remain hopeful and resilient and, Okay, lets do it again.

Angela says she was first introduced to the idea of a gestational carrier when a friend announced she and her husband were expected a baby despite the fact the friend didnt look to be pregnant. Confused,& Angela asked, You are? and the friend revealed that they were using a surrogate.

She began to tell me about the idea of surrogacy. The more we learned about it, the more we began to think that perhaps this was an answer for us.

Courtney says he always knew they would have twins. I had a dream about seven years ago that we were going to have twins. I didnt know how it was going to happen.
