Emmerdale’s Lisa Riley heartbreakingly says she’ll never have children after fertility struggles – OK! magazine

Lisa Riley has revealed she's resigned herself to never having children after going through fertility issues.

The 44 year old, who is well known for portraying Mandy Dingle on the popular soap opera Emmerdale, appeared on Tuesday's Loose Women to speak to the panellists about her on-screen character's own fertility struggles when she made the revelation.

The actress' character Mandy suffered a miscarriage during a storyline earlier this year, which left her unable to have her own biological children.

The stunning star confessed that the storyline hit close to home and she has confronted the possibility that she may never be able to conceive a child herself.

During the interview, she explained: "I've openly discussed that I've had trouble to conceive and I've took ownership that it's never going to happen for me and that's fine."

Lisa, who has been engaged to musician Al since 2018, continued: "It's really hard, you go, we're OK. Whatever reasons you have, you speak about it as a couple. I feel people sometimes need to have more awareness.

"If people say, we don't have children, you just put a full stop there and say, oh OK."

Speaking about her soap character's struggles, she added: "Infertility is not tackled in soap opera and it really should be. I had done a bit of research on infertility but the volume of girls [messaging me] who were 21, 27, so young...

"They felt they could open up to me. They said, I feel incomplete, I don't feel like a woman. Thank you to Emmerdale that we are bringing this story to the forefront."

Lisa opened up about her struggles with conception to Digital Spy last week, where she explained that she was told by medical experts that it's unlikely she will ever be able to have her own biological child.

IVF is also not a viable option for her due to the unfortunate quality of her eggs.

Lisa, who recently opened up on being sober for five years, explained that she doesn't feel like she's missing out on motherhood as she's got a great relationship with her niece and nephews.

She said: "It's like 'oh and are you okay with that?' I'm very happy that in my own personal life I have a family, my niece, my two beautiful nephews are a huge part of my life so yeah I don't have a child of my own, but I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything."
