The62-year-oldmother-of-two speaks candidly about her health struggles

Shes a straight-talking journalist who regularly leaves politicians quaking in their boots with her tough line of questioning on Newsnight.

But theres a another side to Kirsty Wark who presents BBC documentaryThe Menopause And Me on Thursday night.

Kirsty Walk was born on February 3 1955 in Dumfries, Scotland, to a solicitor dad and teacher mum.

After studying history at Edinburgh University, she landed a job as a researcher at BBC Radio Scotland before moving into television in the early 1980s.

She joined Newsnight back in 1993 and has presented Newsnight Review since 2001.

Kirstymarried television producer Alan Clements in 1989, after theymet on BBC Scotland programme Left, Right, and Centre.

The couple have two children, Caitlin, 25, andJames,23.

Despite her media commitments in London, she raised her family in Scotland.

Kirstyused hormone replacement therapy (HRT) after she began her menopause at the age of 47 following ahysterectomy.

However, she ditched the treatment after new research suggested a reported link to breast cancer.

After coming off HRT, Kirsty has suffered ten years of symptoms including night sweats and bad sleep patterns.

The documentary sees Kirsty chat to stars including Jennifer Saunders about their experiences as well as investigate research into extending female fertility.
